He developed service to industry, initially at RUGBY and subsequently at LEEDS but was, perhaps, better known for his outstanding work as a member of the LA Council and as Chairman of the Education Committee during the early post-World War II period; he was Honorary Treasurer 1953-1966 and President 1967. Following retirement from LEEDS he was Head of the new Malaysia SCHOOL from 1964, a member of staff at the Loughborough SCHOOL from 1966 and Visiting Professor, School of Library Studies, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 1968-1971.
